Debate in all its facets at the IDE16
Submitted by YvonneHeselmans on 28 July 2016
How do you organise a debate tournament, what is effective pr, how do you judge and what are basic training skills you need? What are good ways to use debate for promotion of critical skills, and how do games and theatre help debate training?
These and more were the questions participants grappled with at the third edition of the IDEA Debate Exchange in Sofia. They come from twenty different countries and eighteen debate organisations and have gathered to learn more from each other’s experiences and gain valuable connections to the European debate community and new ideas on the basis of other people’s projects.
The IDEA Debate Exchange, hosted by the Sofia Debate Association and IDEA NL this year, started with registration on the 26th, and kicked off for real on Wednesday the 27th with workshops, labs, seminars, and of course some debates. Participants were enthusiastic, saying that there were too many workshops to choose from, and inspired, suggesting more workshops on specific topics and extra debate activities during the evening.
Today, there will be more workshops and a show debate in the evening in Hotel Rila. Tomorrow will be dedicated to sightseeing and relaxation, with Tsari Mali Grad and Hydro Park Windmills on the touring objectives.
